Sommelier
Juan Carlos
A native New Mexican with a decade of experience in the local liquor industry, Juan Carlos is a familiar face in New Mexico wine. After a previous career in state politics and government, he joined the team at Albuquerque’s premier liquor and wine shop and immersed himself in the craft of cocktails and furthering his never-ending education of wine from New Mexico and around the world.
As a consummate nerd, his love of history and voracious appetite for knowledge has led to a personal mental trove of strange facts and interesting trivia about a surprisingly broad range of subjects. A former musician, he still plays guitar and string bass as often as he can, and his training as a classical tenor has led to an unexpected joy for somewhat obscure languages.
As the manager of our bottle shop on Central, he brings to Mission his deep love of both New Mexico and wine as well as his love of Nob Hill as a twenty year resident of the neighborhood. Endlessly fascinated in the history and agriculture of the region, he is always ready to answer questions about our rich culture of wine, beer, and spirits, and his passion for food and its symbiotic relationship with wine is infectious.
